Busy-ness

I'm finally updating!

The Effect for SPLASH went really well! There was some bad communication between us and the school and us. But the students really enjoyed it and I had a faculty member come up to me and say that she was really glad that we got to go and that we were a blessing to them and she thought that our program was just what they needed. I told her we were glad to be there and I was glad that they were blessed. Through out the weekend we had at least 5 speakers, 1 1/2 skits, 1 concert, 1 outreach (which the school led out in), at least 4 or 5 song services, VERY little sleep, and some bonding. We all had a pretty good time even though we were so busy.

The whole event started Friday night. Bryan and Rich were supposed to leave Thursday afternoon around 1 or so but ended up not leaving until 2 in the morning with the trailer with a guy from Broadview. They got there and worked the rest of the night. Monica and I were going to drive Bryan's car out there on Friday at 1:30 but we got a call right before we were going to leave saying that the bus broke down and wouldn't be there for another couple hours! So me, Monica, Evan (he did audio), and Jonathan (who did graphics) all piled all our stuff into the car and left everyone else to wait for the bus. We got there and finished setting up (Bryan and Rich only had a couple hours of sleep before we got there). The rest of the team got there an hour or less before we were supposed to start so we ended up pushing times back but it went well.

Sabbath went well... it was really busy! The school took the students on outreach after lunch for a little over an hour or so so the rest of us stayed around and just kinda sat/laid there talking and getting a few more things together for later. They loved Nestor's group's concert (they were really good) and by that time we had the times figured out and were actually running on time versus everything else NOT being on time all weekend. And the even program we did our skit and had 2 speakers (all the speakers the whole weekend were really good!) and then at the end he had them all get up in a circle, hold hands, and had a big thing of prayer.

After everybody had left we met and prayed and then began the clean up. I started on the extention cords that were tangled really badly in the side room while other people started rolling up the ones we used and the mics and lights and cleaning up the stage. I ended up getting some help with the cords and then Evan told me I could start taking them down the stairs to the trailer. I had 2 already and he was like here's one more... can you get it ok? I was like YEAH! The clean up went on and after the cords were down there we started taking the lights down. Now the lights aren't really all that big (or heavy) so Bryan said you see... what we usually do is carry 4... like this. So I picked up 4 just like the guys were doing and started carrying them down. The guys began to make a bigger deal about that then they did about the cords... that said that I was going to show them up and blah blah blah and it came around to them starting to call me a "she hulk". After everybody except me, Bryan, Rich, Jonathan, and Evan had left Jonathan, Bryan, and Evan went up in the cat walk to get some things out of the lights up there. Jonathan then began to wonder out load when the last time it was checked for safty... Someone told him to jump and find out... he said he was all set and then one of them proceed to say that I'd save those of us still down there just by lifting my arms to hold it all up.

When we all had most everything pretty much packed up we went backstage to have our celebration with fancy plastic cups and sparkling white grape juice and cider. We even had those little party blowers and took a bunch of pictures... some of them they said we would have to be careful who we show them to because it looks like we are all about to get drunk. It was a lot of fun!

So that's that...

I went to my Grandpa's house for Thanksgiving. I rode there with DJ who lives about an hour away from Grandpa. We got there Tuesday night and it only took 5 hours! I actually stayed awake the whole time and we talked for the most part the whole way. Wednesday I slept in and when I got up Grandpa asked me if I wanted to go to the aquarium. So us two and Tracie and her little brother all went there and we petted sharks and afterwards we went to ColdStone for ice cream... it was REALLY good. Thursday we stayed at home and one of Dorothy's daughters and her son came for Thanksgiving and we played cards after we ate. Friday we didn't do much... I slept in til about 12:45 when Grandpa came in wondering if I was still alive (I had been woken up by a phone call at 2 in the morning that lasted for 45 minutes). We pretty much just hung out all day. Sabbath we went to church and then went and fed homeless people. Saturday night I went to the movies with Tracie and one of her friends and Sunday I had to come back. That's the short version but it was fun.

Anyways... Now I'm back at school finishing up the last few weeks til finals and Christmas break. I'm driving/riding home with Bryan for Christmas and we are going to take at least 2 days to do it spending the night in PA so I'm hoping to spend the night at Nanny's house.

Well, I'm sure there is tons more that I could write but I should probably get going and I think this is long enough. I will had a bunch of pictures from the SPLASH event soon... I still need to finish going thru all of them.

Have a good night!
