In case you didn't know, this year's spring break is/has been FULL of traveling (and I'm not even done yet!). Last Wednesday afternoon I headed out to the Rochester airport to catch my first flight of the series. I made it on time and off I went, first to Cleveland, then to Houston, and finally Sacramento, CALIFORNIA! Then came the 2 hour drive to Angwin.
It took me a little bit but I got used to California time and stayed up til 1:00am their time and slept til about 12:30pm their time! (I can't remember the last time I got to sleep almost 12 hours!) Thursday I slept and we hung out most of the day. I got to get a little sun in the afternoon before catching up with Kayloni for some food. Later that night we had a "Palooza". Kayloni and a bunch of her friends have one of these at the end of every quarter. They get together and eat munchies and hang out or watch a movie. Kayloni got a phone call from Darin (her boyfriend) asking if she could make cake and what she'd need for it. All she needed was 3 eggs.
Darin: Do they come in sets of 3?
Kayloni: No! But they come in sets of 6.
Darin: What am I going to do with SIX eggs???
Kayloni: There will only be 3 left after we make the cake.
Darin: Oh... right...
We met them at the kitchen and the guys already had a pizza in the oven and the George Foreman grill heating up for turkey sausage.
Kayloni started making the cake and when it came time for the eggs they got out the package of EIGHTEEN EGGS! And he was worried about what he was going to do with 3 extras!?
Anyways, the cake making proceeded and boy was it interesting :) There wasn't anything to measure the water and oil in and there wasn't any bowls to mix it in. They ended up using the lid to the cake pan to mix it in and one of the guys poured oil in and then ran the pan under the water until he thought it might be enough. He mixed and mixed and Kayloni told him it looked a little thick still but I don't think he added any more water to it. The cake went into the oven while we ate the other stuff. We forgot to set a timer but had a rough idea of when it went in.
Zack (one of the guys) checked on it once and then when it was time to get it out... the cake had sunk! The edges looked nice but the middle was like a crater!
We figured it should still taste ok and Kayloni frosted it according to the guys directions: Just put all the frosting on it... put more in the middle so it will make it look even!
The cake was horrible! It was thick and kinda chewy... somebody said it was sorta like eating lemon cornbread.
One of the days... maybe Friday, Kayloni and I got asked by her roommate if we'd be willing to help this guy (Charles) with this video he was doing. So, we did. And now I'm going to be famous at PUC ;) The video was about how the girls dorm(s) are really strict but the guys' isn't. Kayloni and I both actually had speaking rolls and close ups! It was pretty cool. The video was for Charles' class... he's a film/photo major I think.
Friday we spent some more time in the sun and went to vespers. Sam Leonor from La Sierra spoke. He was amazing! Very funny and he made references to/jokes about other colleges and told stories that totally held my attention.
After vespers, we got invited to go off-roading! It was quite the adventure! There were 5 vehicles that went... 2 white pick-ups, 2 jeeps, and 5 of us in a Range Rover. The people heading up the adventure were completely prepared to open gates and kill saplings. We went around a few gates (some of them we weren't sure if the trucks would make it through the space was so narrow), opened a gate (not sure if it was locked or not but it took a while to open), and went up and down some VERY steep hills! It was really bumpy and quite fun (even though I kinda slept through a little of it...). We got out for a few minutes at Inspiration Point. It was a really pretty place that over looked the valley and you could see the stars really clear. It was a bit chilly so we didn't stay there long before finishing our "drive". I think we got back to the dorm sometime around 1.
Sabbath we slept in and then Kayloni, Darin, and I went to the beach. It was windy and slightly cool and over cast a bit but it was SO nice to be at the ocean! Darin was totally bundled up! Complete with jeans, sneakers, a winter jacket, and a hat! He even put his hood up and tightened it around his face so much we couldn't see his face at all! We did convince him to get up and take some pictures of us.
After the beach we went into a little town and met up with Zack (a different one then mentioned before) and Nicole (2 of Kayloni and Darin's friends). We walked around town for a bit. We ended up in a toy shop for quite a while :) It had a bunch of toys and games for little kids. (and a couple for big kids too... like Ticket to Ride :D). It was pretty fun and all of us were walking around going "OH! Do you remember these?!" "I used have one like that!" "Oh man!!! I wanted one of those SOOO bad when a I was little but..." It was great. After leaving the toy/game store and walking a bit more we decided to head back to the Honda motorcycle and 2005 Ford Mustang (which by the way we weren't allowed to say anything about it have a tint of purple in it) that we had arrived in and find some place to eat. We found a little place that said "Mexican and American Food" and ate some tasty burritos before heading to the Planetarium. We went to the planetarium because Zack, Nicole, and Darin had to go for a class or write a lengthy paper instead.
Sunday was rainy and we didn't do a whole lot. Sunday night I think it was Darin, Kayloni, Zack, Nicole, and I went to one of the dorm kitchens which happened to have some comfy leather couches and a flat screen TV. When we got in there we realized that there wasn't any kind of DVD player and there was a sign that said "Please do not attach any external devices to the TV (i.e. game systems, VCRs, DVD players)" So... we went back to Kayloni's room and grabbed her DVD player and promptly plugged it into the TV we weren't supposed to plug anything into. It worked splendidly and we watched most of Star Wars Episode II. (My first Star Wars movie!) The kitchen was supposed to close at 11 but I think we left around 12.
Monday I did a little homework and editing and Monday night we went to the campus center and set up camp in the Cinema Room and watched the last little bit of Star Wars Episode II and watched all of Episode III.
Tuesday I slept in a little and then got up and showered and packed up a bit. Tuesday night at 11 I met Kayloni in the library before heading to the cafe for Midnight Breakfast... which started at 11 not 12. They had some tasty food including; scrambled eggs with onions, peppers, and cheese in them, sausage patties, tator tots, some really amazing orange juice, and I'm not sure what all else.
Wednesday morning came EARLY with some panic as Kayloni leaned over the edge of her bed and said "Victoria? It's 5:40!" This normally be a phrase that I would respond to with "who cares!?" and would roll over and go back to sleep. BUT, we were supposed to be heading for the airport at 5:45! We left 15 minutes late but I made it in time for my flight and actually had a couple minutes to spare.
HOURS later I arrived in South Bend and was warmly greeted by Marissa :) We got to the house around 10:30 and I got settled then we watched a little TV before crashing. Today we slept in and had a very late breakfast and just kinda hung out most of the afternoon. Then we drove to campus and I ordered CS4 (YAY! YAY! YAY!!!) which should be here soon and Marissa is going to send it to me. And I paid off my school bill for this year... all $3.11 that was left on it :P Then we went to Wal-Mart to pick up a few goodies and back to the house just in time for the Mary Kay party to start. After we all ordered Marissa, Aubrey (she went to Andrews but I hadn't officially met her before), and I went out for supper... and now... we're chillin'.
Its been very lovely not having to cook and not really having to worry about anything :D I'm loving it!
Tomorrow evening we're going to Cara and Brad's for the night and Sabbath! I can't wait! I'm having a wonderful time and I'm really glad I got to come!!!
