Part 1: Snow vs. School and Work
I got my first snow day in about two years this week :) I was so excited! When we went out to do chores Wednesday night Andrew said about how it was supposed to keep snowing. I said I hoped it would snow enough to cancel school but he didn't think it would. I was right... Kim knocked on my door Thursday morning and told me she didn't know if I wanted to stay in bed since school was canceled (along with like 99 other schools in NY). So stay in bed I did, and quite happily I might add. I didn't get up until 11:20 and stayed in my PJs the rest of the day since they also told me not to bother coming into work because of the weather. I was scheduled to work 5 days this week and only ended up working two for a grand total of 7.5 hours which really sucks for the paycheck! Oh the joys of winter in the Northeast.
Part 2: The Possum vs. Andrew
Earlier in the week had a little visitor on the porch. Ok, so it wasn't really little... the thing was a possum! I knew there was one around because I'd seen it peaking around the corner of the house one night I was home by myself and taking Sam out before bed. The thing scared me half to death when I saw it at first. Anyways, we watched it a little and was a bit grossed out but managed to get a few pictures (they kinda laughed at me when I saw it and said "grab a camera!") Andrew pounded on the door and the possum turned and started hissing but didn't run away. So he kept banging on the door until it scurried off but it soon returned. Finally he decided the thing probably shouldn't be hanging around here in case it decided to attack one of the barn cats (I say one of the cats because there's been another cat Kim has named Moo Moo but not adopted yet). So he scared it off the porch and went to take Sam out... with the BB gun. To spare you some details, the possum is now in multiple bags in the garage waiting to be disposed of elsewhere. Oh the joys of country living.
Part 3: Barn Doors and the Sledge Hammer vs. My Leg
The other night I was heading to work and Andrew and Kim had somewhere to be so I was supposed to throw the horses a few flakes of hay before leaving. I got the hay and went to take it outside but the door was frozen like always. So I grabbed the sledge hammer and started whacking the door. It moved a little so I kept hitting it and then... it slipped and I hit my leg instead of the door! I wasn't sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing that it took a minute for it to start hurting. I managed to get the door open and the hay out but wasn't too happy about it. I'm thankful I had some thicker boots on to cushion the hit but I still have a large, colorful, painful bruise on my leg. Oh the joys of chores in the winter :P
