A Little Catch-Up

Last weekend I was on cafe duty. I thought I'd do something special for the kids since there was a little bit smaller of a group (because of mission trip and AUC music clinic) and it was Valentine's Day Weekend. So Friday I went in after lunch like normal and got the kids started on stuff. I then went to the back and made, from scratch, a LOT of pizza dough for supper. I was surprised that we had them done on time. FYI: it takes one double batch of dough for every one of those big trays. I think I ended up making 5 pizzas!

After supper was cleaned up I stayed in the cafe until about 8:30 making the veggie/chicken part of the Chicken Potpie we had on Sabbath. I kept calling Mom and asking how I should do this or what I should do about that. It smelt really good by the time it was done. It was a LONG day but I figured it would be worth to have something a little different for the kids.

Sabbath morning I got up and was in the cafe by about 9:00. I made pie crust from scratch for the top of the potpie and had everything else done by the time church was wrapping up. My workers didn't have much to do when they arrived and I think they were happy about that. A couple people commented on how good it was and even came back for another plate full :)

Saturday afternoon/evening I had a couple people come down and help me make heart shaped sugar cookies for dessert. They had fun making them and the cookies looked super cute! After supper and getting things together for Sunday, I went home for a quick shower, grabbed my stuff, and headed to the ad building to take some pictures of the SA sponsored Dodgeball Tournament. Everyone seemed to have been enjoying themselves until things got a bit rough at the end. But we settled it and the rest of the evening went pretty well. After kicking everyone out of the Ad Building, Jaymee, Adam, and I went to both dorms to hand out little bags of candy that we had made up the morning before. Interesting side note... guys are very picky about what kind of chocolate they get, while girls on the other hand are happy for whatever kind of chocolate they get!

Sunday I worked brunch and then ran up to Nina's appartment for a quick shower before getting picked up by Raechel and heading to Rochester. We met Adri at a bridal show not too far from her house. The place was packed with shoulder to shoulder people most of the way through. There were a bunch of booths that had different flowerists, bakeries with cake tasting, and a few other kinds of booths. When you finally get through, it opened up into a big room that was setup for the fashion show. We managed to find some seats and waited for the show to begin. They had some cute dresses, sharp looking tuxs, give aways, and the most adorable little boy model... he was SO serious and had everyone screaming for him.

After the show we went to Adri's for some lunch before heading to the mall. Raechel found a dress for the wedding and Adri put a deposit down on ties for the guys. So it was a pretty productive afternoon. We went back to the house and had some supper, visited, and looked at some pictures before driving back.

Monday was a normal school day and the only day that Andrew was here. (He's gone for the rest of the month recruiting for taskforce workers for next school year.)

Tuesday the school went tubing and then to the mall in Rochester. I ran into Becky and Sami at the mall... very pleasant surprise :) Got to spend about a half hour with them before I had to drive back.

Wednesday was a pretty crazy day. There was a small group of kids that went ice skating in the morning, another group that left in the early afternoon for the Syracuse mall, and then my group... ski club. I drove the van and Mr. Boyd drove his car to get them all there. I got to go for free since I was a "sponsor". One of the girls, Kim, talked me into trying snowboarding. Boy was that a mistake! I got out to the bunny hill and managed to get onto the J-lift. Not to far up I slipped off of it, grabbed the bar, and hugged it to the top of the hill. Then it was time to try and get down. It didn't go so well. By the 4th or 5th time I was ready to go inside and give my knees and butt a bit of a break. I had started to get a little bit of an idea of how to do it by this time. Some of the kids were already inside or came in while I was in there. Herbie and Cory kept after me to go back out there and they'd take me down the real mountain. I was a bit nervous and told them they didnt' know what they were getting themselves into. But up I went. Herbie told me I'd probably fall getting off the lift and he was right. It took me an hour and a half or better to get down an easy trail. Poor Herbie stayed with me the whole time! I took some pretty hard falls both to my knees and to my butt but I survived it!

When I finally reached home, I took a hot shower to try to relax my muscles a little (it didn't help much) and then laid in bed. I ended up with two bruises on my upper leg
and there's the picture to prove it... I've also got two bruised knees (one of which was quite swollen and is still a bit puffy), very sore thighs and upper arms, and a tailbone that feels like it should be shattered if it's not. But I'm alive with slightly less pain today then yesterday.

This weekend I am off duty! I told Nina I'm not leaving the house. When she said that her, Laurie, Adam, and I should get together and do something this weekend I told her (jokingly) that I'm not leaving the house so they'd have to come over to do something. I'm going to have a few of the girls come over tonight and maybe Nina for some ice cream and hangout time. Not sure when they're coming but they've got to be back around 9. I think Sunday I might be going to the movies with Raechel and then go to her house to teach her and/or her mom how to make fried rice. Hopefully I'll remember my camera :) Should be fun.

(I'll be adding the dodgeball and tubing pictures tonight)
