Kids Say the Darnedest Things!

A few weeks ago I watched my cousin's twin 5 year-olds. They loved the farm and wanted to see all the animals including the chickens. Arriving at the chicken coop I realized the only chicken we could see right away was dead... complete with white eyes and laying funny. This is how our conversation went:

Hannah or Sarah: There's one!
Me: Umm... I think that one's dead
Hannah: I SURE HOPE NOT (said complete with a bit of attitude)
Me: I'm pretty sure it is... it's eyes are all yucky
Hannah: It better not be! I hope it's not dead!
Me: *gives up and lets her think the dead chicken might have some hope*

Yesterday while taking the twins and their two older sisters out to the barn to walk the baby goats around one of them asked to go see the chickens. This is the conversation that took place between the 5 year-olds and myself:

Hannah: I wanna see the one that was laying down last time
Me: Oh... that ones gone
Hannah: Why's it gone?
Sarah: Because it DIED

These two silly little girls are sometimes too smart for their britches but always provide a pretty good laugh!
