Didn't Go My Way

Tonight was NOT my night for chores. It's been thundering on and off all day but it didn't really rain until it was time to go out to do chores. I got things together and headed to the barn. I fed the babies and then started to milk Ivy. Almost as soon as I sat down to milk it started thundering more and then it let loose! Ivy tried to kick the bucket once but other then that no problems with the "old" goats. Alice didn't get out or anything (she did yesterday). I then went on to milking Raizel. She was such a pain! She always starts out ok but towards the end she keeps getting her head out of the hole and tries to eat my shirt or shorts or licks my arm. I kept shoving her head back through the hole but she wouldn't keep it in there. I gave her a little more grain but she finished it too quickly. She started getting her head out again and then she started trying to eat the chain and then a nail on the wall. Eventually, she got her head out from under the chain and attempted to get off the stand and I wasn't even done milking her yet!

I finally finished milking her and knew I was going to have to brave the rain in order to care for the chickens. The rain had let up a bit so I figured that would be the best time to run out. I filled their water and headed to the coop. I got a few yards from the barn and it started POURING again. I knew I couldn't turn back so I trudged on. I got to the coop and counted chickens... 8... there should be 9... where's the other one??? I made a quick scan of the area/lawn and didn't see it so I collected the 3 eggs, gave them their water, and headed back to the barn. I grasped onto the fence to swing my leg over and tried to be mindful of the eggs. I got my first leg over and started swinging the second and "ZAP" the electric fence (there's a wooden fence with electric fence running with it) got me! I got to the barn and had mud splattered all the way up to my knees and I looked as if I'd just gotten out of a shower... while wearing all my clothes. I picked up the 3 bottles and 3 eggs in one hand and the 2 pails of milk with my other hand. I carefully opened the door and went to the house as quick as I could without dropping anything. As I was setting things down I remembered that I had given Sam his supper and filled the water dish but hadn't taken him outside. "Great" I thought "I get to go out in it again". I shut off the water and took care of the milk and bottles and by that time the rain had let up quite a bit and I figured since I was wet already I might as well take him out.

After coming back in I washed off my legs and got some supper and began to veg in front of the tv. And that was my evening of lovely chores :P I need to figure out some more tricks for milking Raizel!
