Green Ink and Ears

Friday evening we had Brent, Dad, and Karolline come over to help tattoo goats. Ivy (who's 5 years old) had never gotten her tattoos, Surfer Girl (who's 1) had the wrong numbers/letters in one ear, and then all 3 of the babies needed there tattoos. They didn't know how much of a struggle the goats would put up so we tried to rally a bunch of people to help. We thought about hog tying the bigger ones and then possibly sitting on her to keep her still enough to tattoo the ears. However, they didn't put up much of a fuss at all! They yelled a little and squirmed a bit but it wasn't anything we couldn't deal with.

We, well they, did Ivy first and we worked our way down to the youngest ones. We had a guy on each side of the goat and Kim held her head while Andrew did the tattooing. When it came to the babies I held the legs of two of them while someone else held them and I held one of them while Brent held the legs.

When we were finished, everyone was green... it was all over our hands and arms and we were a bit curious as to how easily it would come off. But with a little soap and water we had no problem.
The goats on the other hand... Ivy got too much ink and it was all over her head. She looked like she was a leprechaun goat. The babies didn't have as much ink but they still had green on their heads and probably a couple patches on their legs and bodies too. The next morning Kim said they had green all over their back legs too from itching their heads. Tonight when we went out to do chores I was feeding the babies and they still have fading green markings on their heads.

This weekend is the county fair and we are taking all the goats there. There's a goat show on Sunday and I think Andrew and Kim are planning on showing 3 goats. Hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures of some of the goats at the fair.
