Skills Week and Shopping

Last week was skills week. We had something like 50 kids at the academy. I attempted to teach 2 photography/photoshop classes. I say attempt because the first one went horribly! Thank goodness Paul was there and did a lot of covering for me. I wasn't as prepared as I wanted to be. Seemed like the time flew while I was trying to get things together. We managed ok I guess. The second class was better. I was on my own but had a better idea of what to do and actually made the kids go outside and shoot a little then we came in a critiqued them a bit.

I think all the kids had a good time while they were here. Some of the other classes were drawing, horsemanship, computer building, how to write a professional letter, some business stuff, canoing and kayaking, water rescue, pie and cookie making, basic maintenance, small engine repair, and a few others. There was worship in the morning and evenings. Andrew did all the evening ones and there was someone different for each morning. After the evening worship they did different team games to earn points for their team and on Saturday night they had an auction to use their points at. They could bid on a pizza party, swimming, ice cream sundaes, a movie and popcorn, video games, open gym, glow-in-the-dark soccer, and a few other things.

Now that its over the Ad building is back to a very quiet and quite dark state. Seldom is there someone running down the hallway, someone screaming, an open cafeteria, people sitting outside enjoying both the nice weather and their friends. Alas, all this will change in but a couple short weeks when the students start to arrive.

We took today off and I chose to sleep in. After getting up, showering, taking Sam out, I got some lunch and checked emails and all that sorta stuff. Around 1:30 or so Andrew and his parents returned home (they are visiting for the week) and shortly after I borrowed the truck and went to Walmart to pick up a few things I needed... and a few I didn't. After Walmart I headed to the mall (Mom had told me there were some sales and I wanted to check them out). I didn't get anything from any of the stores Mom said had sales but I went to one store and found some little jacket type things I've been looking for for a while to go over my sundresses so I can still wear them to church once school starts and the weather gets cooler. I got a black one and a white one. One of them I got for $0.75!!! and the other for $5.25 both good deals. I also got a couple other dressy jackets for good deals too! I went to Steve & Berry's too and found a REALLY comfy, light-weight pair of cargo pants for under $10. I was quite pleased with my finds :)

Tomorrow its back to work and I'm not sure what's going on this weekend... we'll see what happens :)
