playing catch-up

Alrighty then... I didn't realize it'd been SO long since I'd blogged! So while I'm sitting here waiting for 8:30 to roll around I figured why not procrastinate some more on homework and blog a little. Obviously I didn't realize I hadn't posted ANYTHING since the beginning of September! Unfortunately I'm afraid there's not tons to catch up on.

The milk and cheese rooms and the milking parlor are all almost completed. I've helped them a little on it... probably a lot less then I should have. It all looks really good. The goats learned pretty quickly where the milking parlor is and a few of them run as hard as they can down the aisle, jump up the step, slide, and jump on to the milk stand... most of the time anyways. I had fun helping to paint the floor and bottom parts of the walls in the milk and cheese rooms and hanging the huge piece of plastic on a curtain hanger onto the milk parlor door.

We've gone to a couple more goat shows. The latest one was out in Mumford at a pioneer type village. Alpines showed first so as soon as we were done showing we changed out of our whites and headed into the village. It was pretty cool to walk around and see some of the different crafts. I wish I hadn't forgotten my camera :( They had a bunch of old houses and craft shops along with a couple churches and other buildings. We went through one building that they made different linens in. When we went outside the back there were a few people spinning fibers. The project I was working on for 3D Design for school was an egg carrier and I didn't have much of an idea of what to do. While we were there I figured making a basket might be cool and when we got to the back of the building I thought that the wool stuff would be a perfect lining for it. We watched for a while and started walking away and then Andrew and Kim agreed I should run back and ask for some. I started to talk to one of the ladies and she offered me a bit of bright purple. I thanked her and it did work perfectly!

School has been going fairly well for the most part. All three of my first three projects (we just turned the 4th in today) are on display in the hallways at school. The first was a paper goat with serial planes that had to stand on it's own. The second was a goat made out of wire that was also free-standing. The third was the egg project. The one we turned in today was a group project to design and create a model of some sort of furniture that could be used on campus. We had a 3 person group and did a couch, coffee table, and end table that would go in an empty corner on the 3rd floor of the building. I think it turned out pretty well. Next week we have to turn in a homemade functional instrument made out of found objects... I think I'm going to find a can or glass jar and glue a piece of string to the bottom with a piece of something hard on the bottom and then put some sort of handle on it to make a bell. I can't come up with anything else. And then we've got to make a pop-up book with a partner.
My other classes are okay. Art History is not my forte but I'm doing okay in it. It's a LOT of memorization. Psychology is okay. I always procrastinate which isn't good and the instructor is a bit of jerk but I'm managing. I don't think my grade is as high as I would like but I'm pretty sure I'm at least passing. And Illustrator is going pretty well. The lessons are pretty easy and the homework isn't too bad either... I think I might actually like it... at least parts of it.

Work has kinda sucked lately. It seems like I've gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to working nights and Sundays. I'm working open to close every Sunday this month except for the one I asked off to go to Vermont. I also told him it'd be great to be able to open that Friday so I could leave right after work at noon... but I'm closing downtown so won't be out of there til 5:30ish. I probably won't leave until the next morning unless Raechel can get the weekend off and go with me... then maybe we can share driving which would be nice. And I was supposed to be off tonight but it didn't turn out that way. One of the girls has strep throat so I got asked yesterday if I could cover her shift tonight :P and I couldn't say no because I called in on Monday... boo! We were supposed to carve pumpkins and stuff tonight cause it was pretty much the only night all week all of us were going to be home at a decent time. So much for that. I think I've given up on making any plans from here on out!

Things are moving forward in regards to graduation and going back to Andrews. I got my graduation application turned in a couple weeks ago (which I haven't heard any more about) and I finally got all the financial stuff to AU and put in a transcript request to CCC so that should be going out soon I hope.

Well, I think that's pretty much it. I should probably get back to work and try to get out of here as soon as I can. I'm beat and have a lot to do tonight and tomorrow morning before work.
